PITTSBURGH – GrayMatter announces a new strategic merger with Michigan-Based HTSE, Inc., a process automation & machine control provider, to meet significant growth and demand for Industrial Intelligence solutions.
“We’re thrilled to add the strength of HTSE to GrayMatter’s Industrial Intelligence Platform,” said GrayMatter CEO and co-founder James Gillespie. “They’re a known powerhouse in the pharmaceutical space and in manufacturing overall.”
HTSE, Inc., has provided automation solutions for some of the world’s largest food, beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical and manufacturing companies since 1989. The company’s staff of experienced engineers and technical experts has completed more than 1,000 process automation projects.
“Industrial companies have an urgent need to fill talent gaps, leverage advanced analytics and protect plants and remote assets from cyber attacks,” Gillespie said. “The GrayMatter and HTSE merger creates a larger team of unmatched operational technology expertise to solve these challenges for manufacturers.”
Based near Pittsburgh, GrayMatter leverages Advanced Industrial Analytics, Industrial Cybersecurity, Brilliant Operations and other as-a-service solutions to help industrial organizations transform their operations and empower their people.

“GrayMatter’s extensive experience in the development and deployment of industry-leading manufacturing intelligence solutions along with HTSE’s expertise in both process and discrete automation will allow for even more innovative and complementary solutions that will greatly benefit clients,” HTSE President Brian Mack said. “HTSE could not be more excited to become a part of GrayMatter.”
This is the third strategic merger GrayMatter has completed in about four years. In late 2020, GrayMatter acquired Virginia-based E-Merge Systems and in March 2018, GrayMatter acquired Colorado-based TMMI’s software and services assets. A partnership with Hamilton Robinson Capital Partners, a private equity firm, preceded the partnerships and has accelerated GrayMatter’s ability to expand rapidly.
It is the mission of HTSE, Inc. to provide customers with superior automation expertise at a competitive cost while ensuring a safe and rewarding work environment for its employees.
HTSE strives to be viewed as best-in-class in the eyes of our clients and employees. The day-to-day operation of HTSE and its long-term strategy are guided by a set of core values that every employee shares.
