Predicting Downtime: CNX Teams with GrayMatter to Harness Data Flowing from Natural Gas Wells

CNX resources is among the largest independent natural gas exploration, development and production companies.

Its focus is on the Utica and Marcellus shale formations of the Appalachian Basin in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia.

CNX reports that it has about “530,000 net acres in the Marcellus Shale and approximately 652,000 net acres that have Utica Shale potential in Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.”

CNX and GrayMatter are co-innovating to use predictive analytics to find new efficiencies and increase productivity in CNX’s natural gas drilling operations in the Appalachian Basin.

Technicians based at a data center in CNX’s headquarters in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, rely on GrayMatter’s Innovation as a Service solutions to help them identify and prevent production interruptions at gas well pads spread over four states.

Over time, as a well’s production level begins to decline, it stops earning money for CNX, said Andrea Passman, CNX’s vice president of engineering and development.
